The Teaching Communities Initiative leverages the experience of some
of North Carolina's leading sites in long term care infrastructure
development and disseminates their lessons- learned to a wider audience
across the State. Assisted by a grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable
Trust, the Duke Long Term Care Resources Program has designated three
Teaching Communities across North Carolina:
- Alamance County in the Piedmont;
- Cleveland County in Western North Carolina; and the
- Down-East Consortium of five counties including Beaufort, Hertford,
Martin, Pamlico, and Pitt, co-ordinated by the Mid-East Area Agency
on Aging.
With the Teaching Community concept, Duke LTC works with communities
where effective leadership has taken long term care systems development
beyond planning into implementation.
